For reference, I am 5'4" and about 155lbs with am roughly 44" around my hips/glutes with an average mid section. I bought these shorts in a large and really do love them. They are incredibly soft but I do find that the inseam is slightly shorter than what I typically like because the shorts end up sitting right under my butt, where my butt meets my leg. I still wear them, but I find myself pulling them down a little bit and that could just be because of my body composition.
